Lois Lowry
Lois Lowry is my
second author and another one of my favorite children’s book writers. She has many different styles of books from
the stories aimed at children, to teenagers, and even some young adults novels.
Lowry writes stories that could actually happen and are more accessible to
readers, and they are a little bit harder the Dahl's books. My three favorite Lowry
books would have to be Number the Stars, The Giver, and All About Sam. All
three of these books are different but still amazing and wonderful. Number the Stars is centered around two young girls in Copenhagen during World War Two,
one of the girls is Jewish and the other girl must find some way to protect her
best friend from being taken by Nazis. The Giver is about a dystopian society
where feelings and pretty much everything is repressed, the story centers
around a young boy and how he learns that his world is not as perfect as
everyone thinks. Finally, All About Sam is about a boy named Sam and his life from
the time he is born up into his middle childhood years, this book was written
after the success of a series written by Lowry about Sam’s older sister Anastasia.
As you can see none of these books have anything in common but they are
executed so brilliantly, that is what make Lois Lowry amazing to me.
Another
reason that Lowry is one of my favorite writers is the fact that I have
actually met her. When I was very little my mom took my sibling and I to meet
her and we all have an autographed copy of one of her books. I got Number the
Stars, my brother got The Giver, and my sister has an Anastasia book. I have
grown up with these books, and it somehow makes me feel as if Lois Lowry has
given me a gift, the gift of loving to read. If you have a few hours and you
need a good cry, laugh, or any other emotion you should pick up a Lois Lowery book. I promise you will not regret it! Happy Reading!!
